Costume Consutrction

This is a very belated, blog and to be honest I don't know why it has taken me so long to type it up! So anyhow my last three weeks of rotation I was in costume construction and i did find it rather challenging to say the least. In the first week we did a simple task of a collar and sleeve which was to get us back into the swing of using the machines again, and for the last two weeks we worked on making a shirt, which ended up looking like this:

Whilst working on the shirt project we also spent time amending notes for the opera Albert Herring, which was a great insight to the other things the costume department do. Some of the notes included taking in trousers, mending hems, reminding actors not to wear personal items and buying new shoes as the designer wasn't happy with the first!
I think i learnt so much in costume, not just how to use a sewing machine confidently but I also learnt that I'm such a slow worker, so I want to get quicker at working and I also learnt that i'm still not confident to ask for help, even though everyone is more than happy to help.
