Cole & Son

Ahhhh I'm so happy that Sarah Crooks told me about the wallpaper company Cole & Son, I have been looking for ages for this pattern:

My good friend elder sister has it in her bedroom and she had no idea where it came from! Anyways the history of Cole & Son was interesting to read about as mostly I have blogged about international Wallpaper companies.  Cole & Son was originally called John Perry (after the founder) established in 1875 in an area of Islington reknowned for block printing companies (between the 18th and 19th century there where over 200!)

Cole & Son today use the latest modern technology to create their beautiful wallpapers, however they still largely use skill craftsem and orignial methods invented by John Perry. Perry was famous for his block printing techniques inspired by French methods, but he was more renowned for imitating silk wallpaper. He used mica (a cheaper alternative to silk), using the old flocking technique from Holland which imiated cut and stamped velvet. This inovation by Perry is very skilled in which the craftsmen undergo a lengthy apprienticship before they can create these exclusive papers, and is the only company in the world that still uses this flocking technique.

No wonder Buckingham Palace and the White House have Cole & Son wallpaper in some of their rooms; the compay has one of the largest collection of wallpaper archives in the world consisting of over 1800 block print designs, 350 screenprings and hundreds of originial drawings for wallpapers representing the 18th/19th/20th centuries.
