Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme

Whilst the sun rays where beating hard down in UK, and they rest of the student population in Glasgow were enjoying the mini heat wave, Jude and I where inside painting a Frank McGuinness's iconic show about war and death - Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, which was shown at the Tron Theatre.

The designer, Emma Fitzigibon gave us a bit of an artistic liscence, which meant that we could adapt her model piece and use our own artistic vision to create the final product. Basically, in my head I had 'War Horse' meets the Somme.

Working on this show was a lot of fun and I was happy to have a change from painting a more bricks! I was covered in head to toe (as usual) is brown muddy paint (I must have looked like I had been rolling about in a mud pit) as we painted the bridge and the floor in a series of brown washes, as well as doing a lot of spattering.

Even though the paint job on this show didn't take a huge amount of time, I feel we achieved what the designer wanted, and I'm not going to lie I think the set looked awesome!
