Week 6

Ahhh, week 6! Well to say the least I was having kittens all this week, we were meant to finish all the painting this week as on Friday the van was coming. However, I knew at the start of the week this was unachievable as we still had to: finish all the turrets, paint the front wall (both sides), paint the bridge, finish one of the houses, paint the two towers, paint the main house and paint the headers.

On the plus side we had a group of first year Applied Artists in all the week to help us paint! My first big task this week though was speaking to Lee about his village flat. I could see from the model piece that the shades of pink and blue he had painted his house did not match, and I felt every time I tried to say something he got a bit defensive. I didn't really know how to approach the issue so thankfully Gary spoke to him and got him headed in the right direction as I didn't want to ask Jude and Rosie to do it as I really wanted Lee to be proud of his work. By the middle of the week, Lee had finished his house and I think he did a fab job on it so he should be really happy with himself!

Rose was amazing this week when it came to painting the turrets, she painted them in such a quick but beautiful way and everyone who has came into the department has been in awe of them! I let her be in charge of the turrets so she helped to manage the first years when they worked on the turrets with her.

The first years this week were really fun and chatty, and I hope we made them feel really welcome in the department. They helped do a lot of priming, they got all the headers painted and did a fantastic job on helping Jude, Rosie and Gillian on painting the front wall.

Gillian did an excellent job on the garden part of back of the front wall, I chose her to do this as she had helped me a lot when painting the maze scene and I could tell when she had finished her paint job she was pleased with her work.

Despite being under pressure this week, and Gary being ill again I think we achieved a lot!
